Pedestals/risers are recommended for use on an existing solid surface. If you are looking to raise your decking on a soft surface such as soil, then posts are better suited to this type of project for the accurate stability needed. Pedestals create space underneath the decking, which is convenient for cables to be installed below the decking and promoting air flow as well as drainage.
