The 1.83m length would be mainly choosen for a concrete base in which can be fix with a steel base plate. You can of course choice this size and sink the post into the ground to provide the size required.
The alternative size of 2.4m long aluminum fencing post would be mainly selected for a 6ft 1.83m height fencing installation, in which you would sink and concrete you aluminum post into the ground by 500mm to provide increased strength and durability during the years of use.
