Composite boards have come a long way and have been accepted by homeowners as the best decking material. The first generation of composite decking is not as good as the modern, improved ones available today. This capped composite decking material is the king of decking. But what is capped composite decking?

Composite Decking, What Is It?

Composite decking is a durable outdoor flooring material that you can use to construct a decking. The nature of composite decking is not like wood. Timber decking contains 100% wood, while composite decking is a synthetic material that contains wood dust and plastic. Note that timber fibre and plastic are recycled materials.

This simply signifies that WPC decking is made from leftover materials. It is not like timber decking that requires the falling of trees. Composite decking is environmentally friendly because it conserves trees. Also, WPC decking does not require any chemical to make it last longer. This makes WPC decking less hazardous to your health, unlike timber decking that contains chemicals.

There are plenty of composite boards available. There is the capped and uncapped plastic wood decking. Aside from capped and uncapped, there is grooved and ungrooved WPC decking. Each of these composite boards has its advantages.

Capped Composite Decking Boards

A capped WPC decking board has an extra layer or covering of plastic on its top. They are similar to other kinds of composite decking boards, but the difference is the plastic coating that protects the surface. Uncapped composite decking, as you can now guess, does not have an additional layer of plastic coating on its surface.

Capped WPC deckings are second-generation boards or modern decking boards. Uncapped composite deckings are the first generation composite boards. The second-generation WPC boards have been rated by homeowners as the best. This is because of the many advantages of capped composite decking.

Advantages of Capped Composite Decking.

Capped Composite Decking Absorbs Less Moisture

One main advantage of capped WPC decking is that it takes in a little moisture compared to wood decking. This is because the plastic-coated surface forms a protective shell around the top of the composite board that prevents water from infiltrating it.

The good side of absorbing less moisture is that your capped composite decking will not swell. A decking material will swell or increase in size if it takes in much moisture. When a decking material swells, it will be disfigured, and the surface will be uneven. Also, if the water does not dry quickly, the decking will rot.

Note that rot in decking is associated with wood decking. So, if you install a capped WPC decking, you don’t have to worry that it will swell or rot. This signifies that you can install capped composite decking in an outdoor space exposed to rainwater. Or, you can install capped composite decking close to a pool or a dock where water is abundant.

Resist Mould and Mildew

Another benefit of capped composite decking is that it will resist mould and mildew better than wood. Mildew and mould will thrive on a damp decking. A damp decking is one that absorbs moisture and becomes wet. If a decking becomes moist, and the weather condition is set, then mildew and mould will grow. Capped decking will not become damp, so mould will find it difficult to feed on it.

Resist the Growth of Green Algae

Green algae are like mildew and mould that thrive in damp or wet places. Since capped composite decking will not become damp, then green algae will not grow on it.

Easily to Clean During Maintenance

One thing with composite decking is that they require regular maintenance like other household materials. Capped WPC decking is easy to maintain. This is because the plastic surface of capped boards will prevent the liquid stain from infiltrating it. If oil or grease should spill on a capped decking, the grease will remain on top.

The good side of this is that you can easily use a soft brush to brush the grease off the top of your WPC decking. Also, the capped surface of WPC decking prevents the UV rays from fading the surface pigment.

Capped Composite Decking Will Resist Insect

Unlike timber decking that is insect food, composite decking is not insect food. Capped wpc decking plastic covering protects the wood part of it and prevents termites from feeding on it.
